Old Quebec City Food Tour & More!

We highly recommend you take a food tour when you’re visiting Old Quebec City. This three hour tour will give you a small sample of some of the great food this area has too offer.

We booked our Food Tour online via Viator, a tour company. Our tour guide was ‘Simon the Guide‘ who provided us with a historical insight of the city as we travelling from location to the next.

Here are the five places we visited on our tour along with others we sampled. Photo acknowledgements go to each business associated with the write up.

1. La Bûche – We started the tour with a 3-course tasting here with a Québécois split pea soup, pâté chinois (shepherd’s pie), and maple taffy on a stick.

We stayed at Le Château de Pierre where the accommodation included breakfast coupons for to La Buche. Their breakfast offerings were amazing! I had their caramel crepes two of the four mornings. Highly recommended.

2. Chez Paillard – Discover a true French-style artisan bakery. They are known to have the best croissant in town. They do! Be prepared to stand in line briefly for one of these melt in your mouth treats. It’s worth it!

3. BE Club Bistro – The tour description states its a step into a 200-year-old house for a unique experience. During this stop we had a variation on the traditional Marconi & Cheese. Barley replaced the macaroni creating an unique twist on a classic dish. We also sampled a local Quebec wine.

4. Maison Livernois – We sampled authentic Quebec poutine and a gin pairing. Both were enjoyed in a cozy room made for sampling menu items. If you enjoy gin then you are in luck. They make some homemade gins or you can choose from one of their collection of over 250 gins.

Épicerie Québécoise – Chez Boulay
This unique shop is three shops in one. They are a restaurant, bakery and small grocery store selling seafood, all types of fowl along with other unique products. Oh, they are also a bakery! We sampled some of their brown sugar fudge also known as Sucre la Creme.

Note Worthy
There are over 160 restaurants from fine dining to casual. Do your best when visiting this historic gem in Canada. We did dine at a number of other amazing restaurants & pubs outside the Food Tour and all were worth the visit.
